Gambling Myths Every Player Should Be Aware Of
When we don't really know the facts we can be gullible to even the smallest bit of superstition. It is interesting that gambling has a lot of superstition and myths associated with it. Over the years experts have busted gambling myths and we have listed some of the prevalent ones that you might have even thought of. Knowing the facts will clear myths and make you an informed gambler.
Gambling myth number one, the dice that are used in the game are biased. If ever you play craps or any other casino game that uses dice you can be sure that they are not loaded (i.e. bias or have manufacture defects). Casinos spend a lot of money to make sure that dice are precision crafted and well balanced since their reputation is at stake. It isn't true that the sides on the dice that have less pips are either slightly lighter or slightly heavier.
Gambling myth number two, casinos tighten or loosen slot machines whenever they want to. Casinos, whether they are online or land-based, cannot in any way tamper with a slot machine's payback percentage. There is no magic switch or click of a button that casino employees or management staff can use to regulate slot machines. The payback percentage of a slot machine is preprogrammed will cost a casino money. That loss isn't worth whatever possible gain they may regularly get out of regular game play.
Gambling myth number three, you have to be a real mathematician to play blackjack well. There is a reason why blackjack strategy is usually called basic. Anyone, even college dropouts, can learn blackjack basic strategy. Stories, clips, or movies about MIT students (or professors) only add fire to this gambling myth.
Gambling myth number four, in blackjack, the player four seats down from you ruins the natural order of the cards. Other players even take this gambling myth further by saying that only one bad player on the table ruins the game for everyone. If you take this myth seriously then you can be sure the reverse is also true, that bad plays made by bad players can also work well for you. The fact is, in the long run, even having several bad players will make very little difference in blackjack.
Gambling myth number five, the slot machines know that you have your club card in the slot and it goes cold when you do. It is true that slot machines can tell if you have inserted your slot club card into the reader. But the card reader is in no way related to the machine's random number generator. The card reader performs a specific function independent of the random number generator that decides what symbols you see on the view screen.
If you know the facts you can easily dispel a myth when you hear it. There may always be gambling myths springing up now and then but the informed gambler will stand by the facts and will play better games.
